PRESS RELEASE NOVEMBER 15, 2010
ELECTRIC CORD SETS, INC.
“MEDICAL DEVICE POWER CORD QUALITY”
A recent report on an FDS investigation into defective medical device cords has caused great concern throughout the industry.
According to the investigation, two major medical device manufacturers have sent the FDA 122 reports of sparking, charring and fires that resulted from defective power supply cords used on some of their devices. All of the reports so far from these two manufacturers have involved cords with a black plastic bridge manufactured by Electri-Cord Manufacturing, Inc. in Westfield, PA (source www.fda.gov
) The FDA investigation into possible causes are focusing on cords manufactured with the black plastic bridge (see figure 1) in place of individually soldered blades and pins (see figure 2).
Electric Cord Sets, Inc. would like to assure everyone that a plastic bridge assembly has never been used in any of our medical device cords. Our process involves individually soldering each blade and pin directly to the copper strands and then using a dual molding process. This insures maximum stability and safety on each medical device plug that we manufacture.
